International Carnatic Violin Contest

Balalayam's “International Carnatic Violin Contest 2023” is being conducted for a noble cause of raising funds for Dasamahavidya Temple and Ghosala, Arakkonam. Our “Celebrity, musical genius, violin maestro Kalaimamani Shri. Embar Kannan”, has consented to be our JUDGE and shall interact with the “TOP 3 FINALISTS FROM EACH CATEGORY” with a genuine intent to motivate and share some great tips to the future violinists of the world. Last date for registration is 22 Jan 2023 and all entries for the 1st round to be submitted before 29 Jan 2023, 11:59 PM IST.

Terms and Conditions:

Kindly adhere to the following rules and regulations of the competition strictly. Judges decision shall be final and no appeals shall be entertained or honored.

1. Registration form and all entries to be submitted ONLINE only.
2. Mobile No / Registered e-mail ID to be unique for each Contestant participating from the same family. All the information relating to the contest will be communicated only to that registered Mobile Number.
3. Confirmation message along with your registration number for the respective category / categories will be sent only to your registered WhatsApp Number / email.
4. Recorded Video file of the performance should be in Horizontal Position with the highest possible resolution to ensure video quality / clarity.
5. Contestants are permitted to use a recording mic for audio clarity mobile / camera during the performance.
6. The competition is open to everyone except graded artists of DD
   and AIR.
7. Selection to the next level is the absolute discretion of the judges.
8. Last date for registration is 22nd Jan 2023.
9. After successful registration and payment of entry fees, you will receive your unique contestant number and further details within 24 hours.
10. Entries for Round 1 must be received latest by 11 PM IST on 29th Jan 2023.
11. Kindly upload your performance to your google drive or drop box and make sure the file name has your contestant number and name.
12. Submission of your google drive / drop box link can be done by WhatsApp (+91 9500111108) or E-Mail (balalayamacademy@gmail.com) before the deadline. Entries received after 11:59PM IST on 29th Jan 2023 shall not be accepted.
13. Recommended to wear Indian traditional attire for your performance.
14. Kindly choose a place with a plain background or screen before recording and DO NOT MAKE ANY VIDEO EFFECTS OR EDITS for your entries. “Pause and Record” must not be done and if found violating, your entry shall be disqualified.

CATEGORIES (ROUND 1)

Before starting to record the songs, please mention your Your name, Registration number, Category (Eg. Geetham, Varnam, Keerthanai, Manodharmam), Song name, song composer, Ragam and Thaalam. An extra 30 seconds shall be permitted for introduction. All performances shall be “SOLO”. Kindly use Shruti box or Tanpura Droid app for Shruti and make sure that the volume is not too high. Your violin sounds should be clearly demonstrated. The contestant and their playing of the instrument must be fully visible.

1. SUB JUNIOR (4-8 YEARS): Any Geetham / Varnam (2 minutes).
2. JUNIOR (9-13 YEARS): Any Varnam / Keerthanai (3 minutes).
3. SENIOR (14-18 YEARS): Any Varnam / Keerthanai / Manodharmam (5 minutes).
4. OPEN (19+ YRS): Any Varnam / Keerthanai / Manodharmam (5 minutes)
   All participants/contestants shall receive an “e-Participation Certificate” and the Top 3 Winners from each category shall be permitted to interact with by Kalaimamani Shri Embar. S. Kannan either online / offline depending on the ground situation related to COVID-19 restrictions and also our Chief Guest’s convenience and availability.
